Updated: May 10, 2023

Are you working hard to build your muscle mass?

If so, you know how difficult it is. And you have probably also noticed that you are losing muscles faster than you are building them.

However, it is not just about building muscle mass - it is also about keeping it.

In this post we will go through the steps you need to follow if you want to keep your muscle mass.

Consistency

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to keeping your muscle mass is consistency. You cannot simply work hard for a few weeks and then expect your muscles to stay at their optimal level. Instead, you need to make sure that you are consistently following a well-designed workout routine and eating a healthy, muscle-building diet.

One way to ensure consistency in your workouts is to track them. Make sure you update your sessions every time you are doing them so you know where you stand. Having the same schedule every week will help you too. Your body will naturaly feel it is time to workout, after it get used to it, and will send you a signal as an alarm to let you know the time to get a sweat has came.

Additionally, you may want to consider working with a personal trainer or coach (5 questions to answer before hiring a PT) who can help you design a customized workout plan that is tailored to your specific needs and goals.

To make sure you stick to your routine you also need to recover between your sessions (the importance of a good recovery). Muscle recovery is a crucial part of the muscle-building process and should not be overlooked. This means taking rest days, getting enough sleep, and fueling your body with the right nutrients to support muscle growth and repair.

Nutrition and Hydration

When it comes to physical activity there is the work you are doing during your trainings (in the gym, at home etc) but there is also some work to do out of this timeframe.

Nutrition and hydration play a crucial role in maintaining your muscle mass.

This means drinking enough water and eating enough protein to make sure the repair process is optimized.

High quality protein from different sources will do the job.

Challenge Your Muscles

Lastly, it is important to continue challenging your muscles in order to maintain and improve your muscle mass. This means gradually increasing the intensity and difficulty of your workouts over time. There are many ways to challenge your muscles, such as increasing the weight you lift, adding new exercises to your routine, or decreasing your rest time between sets. By constantly challenging your muscles, you can stimulate growth and ensure that your muscles remain strong and healthy. Overall, maintaining your muscle mass requires dedication, consistency, and a commitment to living a healthy lifestyle. By following the tips outlined in this article, you can ensure that your muscles remain strong, healthy, and toned for years to come.
